“From his legal education at Harvard to his time serving under federal judges, Jonathan brings broad experience to the state’s highest court,” said Governor Ricketts.
Governor Pete Ricketts announced on Wednesday that he is appointing Jonathan J. Papik to the Supreme Court of the Fourth Judicial District of Nebraska.
According to a press release from the governors office, before entering private practice, Papik served as a law clerk for Judge Laurence H. Silberman of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit and for Judge Neil M. Gorsuch during his time on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit. Papik has also served as a summer law clerk for the U.S Attorney’s Office, District of Minnesota and for the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Legal Policy.
While an associate and then partner at CWWJO, Papik practiced law in the areas of constitutional and governmental litigation, business litigation, and legal malpractice defense, among others.
Papik holds a Bachelor of Arts in history from Northwestern College, graduating summa cum laude, and a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School where he graduated magna cum laude.
Papik has served on the board of directors for the Douglas County Historical Society. He has graduated from the Nebraska State Bar Association Leadership Academy, and he was previously an executive editor for the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy.
The vacancy is due to the resignation of Judge Max Kelch. This is Governor Ricketts’ fourth appointment to the Nebraska Supreme Court.
The Fourth Judicial District for the Supreme Court consists of portions of Douglas and Sarpy Counties. A map of the district can be found at https://supremecourt.nebraska.gov/.
