Since 1965, Duane Skaff hasn’t gone a day without a reminder of his time overseas in the Marine Corps.

“It’s a little stainless steel clip that’s got my name on it and the Marine Corps emblem,” Skaff said. “When I was released from the Marine Corps in 1965, my commander that I was with practically the whole time, when he came was giving my discharge papers, he gave it to me in a little gift box.”

However, two months ago the commanding officer’s gift of irreplaceable value was gone. According to Skaff, the clip was confiscated by TSA and he did not want to argue with them and when he contacted them later about returning it, he found out TSA had sent it to auction.

“I’ve put over 200,000 miles just flying, carrying this with me and I was never stopped,” he said.

In a last-ditch effort, Skaff got in touch with Congressman Don Bacon’s office and a little over a month ago, he got his money clip back.

“I don’t know what magic Congressman Bacon’s office or his staff performed, but they got it back for me,” he said. “I’m eternally grateful.”
