Nebraska Republican Party: End Wasteful Lincoln Spending

LINCOLN, NE – Today, Nebraska Republican Party Executive Director Ryan Hamilton called on the City of Lincoln to stop wasteful, unnecessary discretionary spending. On Thursday, the Lincoln Journal Star reported that Mayor Chris Beutler spent more than $15,000 in taxpayer funds on a sculpture for his own office suite.

“Lincoln residents want street repairs, not high-dollar, fancy artwork for the Mayor’s Office,” said Hamilton. “Mayor Beutler and Lincoln Democrats have a history of careless, wasteful spending, and it’s time for voters to end their tax-and-spend recklessness.”

In February, Republican mayoral candidate Cyndi Lamm denounced Beutler’s decision to spend $187,000 in taxpayer funds on a campaign to raise the sales tax on Lincoln families. “Lincoln Democrats like Leirion Gaylor Baird represent more of the same: waste and abuse of taxpayer money together with new and higher taxes,” Hamilton added. “It is disappointing that the mayor can find money to fund his semi-private art collection but he keeps going back to the taxpayers for additional money to fix our roads,” Hamilton said. “It’s time for a change.”
