In this election we are casting our votes for District 6 State Sen. Theresa Thibodeau on one issue: taxes.
Nebraska ridiculously taxes Social Security income. It needs to change, or retirees like us have a strong incentive to move to a state with a more sensible tax code.
This year the Legislature took a step — a small step — toward fixing this problem by increasing the amount of income that can be earned before Social Security income is taxed. We’d like to see the Legislature do more, and we’ll be watching next year to see if senators make more progress.
But for now we are going to say thank you and cast a vote for State Sen. Theresa Thibodeau, who voted for this tax relief for retirees.
