The American Conservative Union has released its rankings for Nebraska’s 2018 and 2019 legislative sessions and the verdict is back: Senator Tony Vargas (D-Omaha) has the worst record in the unicameral.

Tony is using his 39% ACU Average–an F by anyone’s reckoning–to try to position himself to run against Congressman Don Bacon. But the evidence is incontrovertible: he is the most liberal, most progressive member of our legislature and totally out of step with the voters of Congressional District 2 and the rest of the state.

To be fair to Vargas, he does have one thing going for him: to be the most liberal member of our state’s legislature takes a lot of work. Between Senator Steve Lathrop’s bill to reduce prison sentences for individuals convicted of sex offenses against children and Senator Megan Hunt promoting the use of telehealth for abortions, being named Nebraska’s Most Liberal Legislator did take focus and work.

Here are some of the nutty ideas Senator Vargas tried to advance in our legislature: forcing employees to have how much money they earn publicly disclosed (LB 217), mandating local governments centrally plan early childhood education centers (LB 66), providing a $5,000 payment to folks just for moving into communities selected by the legislature (LB 86, Wayne Amendment) and voting to create a new bureaucracy and raise property taxes by $17 million.

The simple truth: we can’t afford Tony Vargas in Washington.

We need your help to make sure this never happens.

Can you chip in a few dollars to help us make sure Don Bacon gets the support he deserves from Nebraska Republicans?
